So you’ve just picked up your first SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera. You’ve read the manual and surfed the web, and now you’re ready to start taking some Pulitzer- grade photography. Right? Sure! But before you take off with camera in hand, take a moment to read over these five tips so you can help your images go from great to fabulous.

1. Dump the Flash

While it’s true that professional photographers often do use a flash or complicated light rigs, you shouldn’t need a flash in most lighting conditions. Subjects taken in natural light often look more natural and have more detail and depth than pictures taken with a flash. Additionally, getting rid of the flash during your first week will make you a lot more familiar with how your camera works with light- giving you an invaluable skill as a beginning photographer.

2. Turn Off Auto Focus

There’s no arguing that a camera that auto-focuses is infinitely handy and easy to use. However, focusing on the fly is an important tool in any photographer’s toolbox. Since cameras don’t understand your intent, it’s up to you to make sure you’re focused on the right thing at the right moment. It’s amazing how interesting an image can be when you let the focus be out of the direct center of the frame, so don’t forget to set your camera to manual from time to time.

3. Take a Photo Class

You can buy all the books in the world and browse the internet for days, but the absolute best way to learn about photography is in a hands on environment. Find a class at a community college or local art school and see how understanding photography will improve your work for the better. As a bonus, your photo teacher will likely give you assignments based on individual elements of photography that you probably never considered.

4. Say Farewell to Color

Before you dive into color, buy a few rolls of T-Max 400 (great B&W film) and see if taking it back to the basics changes your interpretation of the world around you. You know it’s time to upgrade to taking color images when you can print a black and white image that has pure black, pure white and every tone in between. Shooting in black and white will force your mind to think less about the “photo” and more about how light interacts with objects (the important part) in a frame.

5. Shoot, Shoot, Shoot

This may seem obvious, but if you’re interested in becoming a “great” photographer, you’ll need to shoot lots and lots of photos. The more pictures you take, the better you will get. Photography is often as much about timing and luck as it is skill and equipment. Even “great” photographers only average 3-4 good photos at a time, so don’t worry about taking a lot of images. It’s far worse to miss a photo opportunity than to take too many pictures!

There is no great secret to being an amazing photographer. The more you challenge yourself, the better you’ll become. If you start with a strong understanding of how your camera works and what it takes to take a good photo, the rest will come with practice. Your camera will never change- only your ability to manipulate it. So keep your SLR close and extra film or memory card on hand. Never be afraid of experimenting with new ideas because there will always be more film or memory cards! And remember: The most important photograph in the world is the one you are about to take.

The other day I was taking pictures of birds outside of my house. It was in the middle of the evening and I told myself that I had to do what was right in order to take good pictures. I always love to take pictures of animals and birds. It actually brings a lot of joy into my heart. I always feel this sense of love and belonging when I am helping animals and birds. When I take pictures of birds, I am able to show my family and friends some beauty in nature as well. I can honestly say that this helps me to look at life in a whole new way. It makes me realize that life is about love and joy. It brings peace into your heart and causes you to feel more happiness on a daily basis.

When I take pictures of birds, I realize that it is not just photography that I am getting myself into. It is actually perfecting the art of being a professional photographer. Many people from different walks of life have told me that I have such a wonderful way of getting through to people that want to learn more about photography and taking pictures. I believe that it is with trial and error that you find out more about photography and photographing.

I think that the digital camera is the best camera in the world. It helps you to grow into another form of life. It can really help you to see a light at the end of the tunnel. The more that you grow closer to what you want, the more that life gets the best of you.

I started to take pictures when I was a young child. I used to sit outside of my house and take pictures of dogs and cats. I later got into bird photography because it was such a lovely experience. I used to sit outside and take pictures of red and blue birds. It was an exciting time for me to see what life was truly all about. It was a good way for me to see a new beginning in all that I was doing. I learned that you have to be peaceful and satisfied with what you are given in life. You must always try to aim for what is right and to always aim for happiness. I try to do this each day of my life and I often get the right moves done.

I think that taking pictures of happiness and love is a great opportunity for anyone to have in life. It actually provides you with a sense of happiness and wholeness. You always begin to grow into something that is very unique when you take pictures. I always tell people to enjoy the life that you have now because you never know what tomorrow can bring. I usually keep my photographs for years. This is the great thing about photography. There is always something new to learn each day.

Weddings are one of the most deserving and difficult occasions to photograph. Lighting, distance from the subjects and lots of movement are all challenges with wedding photography. So, here are 8 wedding photography tips you can use to help make sure that your wedding pictures are just what you (and the bride and groom) want.

1. Bring Lots of Batteries – This is especially true for digital cameras since digital uses far more power than film cameras. And if like most guests with digital cameras you’re showing your pictures to others at the wedding and reception, that LCD will zap the power even more. So bring lots (and I mean lots) of extra batteries.

2. Bring Extra Memory Cards and Increase the Resolution – You never know which pictures will end up being the ones you want to frame or make prints of for the photo album, so be sure that your camera is set to medium or better yet, high resolution. Having extra memory cards will help make sure you don’t run out of space.

3. Look for the Unexpected Moments – In addition to all of the traditional moments you need to take like the bride and groom getting ready, exchange of vows, the first kiss, there will always be the unexpected “Kodak moments” that you want to capture. Along with all the traditional moments that you don’t want to miss: the bride (or groom) getting ready, the exchange of vows, the first kiss, the cake cutting ceremony and so on, there are bound to be many unexpected “Kodak moments.” Watch the children as they will provide many sweet and comical photo ops at a wedding! And don’t forget to honor the parents of both the bride and groom by taking their pictures. There will be much emotion on this joyous day to capture with your camera.

4. Increase the ISO – If you have a film camera, use a higher speed film, such as 400, but if you have a digital camera like most will, increase the camera’s ISO, that is its sensitivity to light. Try increasing just to 200 or 400. Use digital noise removing software if needed. The higher ISO can brighten otherwise underexposed pictures better than a compact’s built in flash.

5. Photo Edit Out the Red Eye – Most wedding pictures are taken from too far a distance for the camera’s red eye reduction to work, but photo editing software such as Photoshop and even the free, Picasa can take the red out.

6. Save the Flash for the Most Important Pictures – Since it can take a while for the flash to recharge- plan ahead. Unless a “can’t miss” spontaneous photo opportunity comes up, save the flash for moments you most want to have pictures of, like the bride and groom cutting the cake, kissing after their vows, their first dance, etc.

7. Make Use of Optical Zoom or Your Feet – For those far away photos, use the optical zoom (not digital zoom if you can). If your camera doesn’t have an optical zoom, it’s best to simply move closer to the subject.

8. Don’t Let Shutter Lag Ruin your Pictures - Although this isn’t a problem with film, if you’re taking photos with a digital camera be prepared to compensate for the shutter lag. Some cameras shoot much faster (or slower) than others, so if you haven’t done so yet, get acquainted with yours before the wedding. When taking action shots such as dancing at the reception, do the same as you would at a sports event. Try to guess what’s going to happen next and point the camera in that direction and press the shutter half way down. Be ready to take lots of photos anytime there are people moving, so that you end up with several good pictures. And on such an important event, it’s important to take several still shots as well.

Hopefully these 8 wedding photo tips will help you make the most out of your next wedding and give the bride and groom pictures they adore. Until then, keep practicing and have fun learning photography!

Chroma Keying is the process used in digital photography. It is used to digitally replace the background screen of the subject by any other image. With this technique you can make your subject bound buildings to buildings. You can even dwarf the subject standing in the midst of tall towns and towers. One can even make the subject climb the side of the volcano as such scenes are used by most of the movie directors in their movies. This is an advanced technique with which can convert the world of imagination into the world of reality. It is useful for professional as well as amateur photographers.

How to use this process?

This process works with any kind of camera. The digital cameras offer several features to the user. You can implement this technique with a variety of cameras. A photographer also needs Chroma key software to key the images or photographs. Another factor which you need to consider is the proper lighting in the studio while photographing your subject. You also need to choose an appropriate color cloth for the background screen of the image.

There is much state-of-art software available which can help you in keying your subject. These tools can produce high quality pictures after the process is carried out appropriately. Some tools equip the photographer to edit the image and add visual effects for perfection. Proper lighting is essential to avoid shadows falling on the subject or ‘color spill’ on the subject. Less amount of lighting can create shadows on the face or clothes of the subject. This will not produce high quality pictures when the background screen is keyed. ‘Color spill’ refers to the reflection of extra amount of light falling onto the face of the subject. This happens when you use more than the required amount of light. It is advisable to make use of two sets of light. One set can light the background and the other set can light the foreground. You can use blue or green color good quality cloth for the background. These two colors are the farthest from skin tones that is why they are often used. The subject should not wear either of these colors. All these factors can help you in creating good quality images.

Nikon cameras are prestigious devices used by professional photographers all over the world to click pictures to create albums. Nikon has enjoyed the reputation of being the leading manufacturers of digital cameras across the globe and has created an unparalleled brand image for itself. Whenever professionals and amateurs think of buying cameras, the brands that come to their conscience are the ones like Nikon. Subsequently, the price also goes up with the brand equity. Nikon cameras are a little priced and hence their price tags are justified too. The lenses used in these cameras are very hard to find because of their exclusivity and are thus quite exquisitely priced. Because of their frequent unavailability, photographers are often left frustrated.

Thelenspro is a website that lends Nikon camera lenses on lease to photographers at a very nominal fee. The lenses are given to them on feasible lens rental so that they can use those lenses for their assignments and return them back once the project is over. The Nikon lens rental scheme at thelenspro.com is very economical and has found numerous takers in possession of prestigious Nikon cameras. Since the cameras only accept the original lenses which at times become tough to find, photographers can come on board the portal and find all the Nikon lenses that have contemporary usage. These lenses have been traced out especially by the team at thelenspro.com and are assimilated in such a manner that they can be chosen from easily. The Nikon lens rental has also been priced in such a manner that photographers will not find the rental amount to be outrageous.

Since Nikon cameras have an exclusivity quotient about them, it comes as no surprise that their lenses too are priced accordingly. These lenses have been searched from various parts of the world and are very high on quality and serve the exact recipe that the photographers would be looking for. The material behind their making is again exemplary and the solidity that the lenses have is unparalleled. These qualities really make the Nikon camera lenses sought after and make their availability very mystical.

Thelenspro.com ensures that all photographers using Nikon cameras, irrespective of the models, are allotted the kind of lenses that would fit inside their cameras. The lenses are of all sizes, focal lengths, curvatures and diversions. Be it convex or concave lenses the portal has the availability of all these. The lens rental charged by the portal depends solely on the type of lenses being taken up by the photographer on lease and guarantees economic viability. Photography professionals irrespective of their experience can come and visit the portal without any inhibitions and accordingly take up the lenses that would benefit them the most. The reclusiveness that photographers often have can be kept at bay regarding the availability with the required approach being a little belligerent. The portal has been packaged with all these lenses and is an effort towards making it a single stop shop for photographers looking for Nikon camera lenses.

There are a number of hints, tips, techniques and tricks that you can master to enhance photograph composition, to add mood or impact to your pictures and with some easily understood camera skills turn the mundane into the spectacular.

Timing is a critical element of lighting and can work to your advantage. The best time of the day for shooting landscapes for example is either approaching dusk or just before and after dawn.

At these times the sun can be your friend times and you can use shadow and light to assist with contrast. You can use the sun to light areas with low angled light that would lose light as the sun rises towards its zenith. This is also the time for interesting changes in colour and spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

When the sun is high, shadows are shorter and clearly defined. Shooting from shadow to light will over-expose naturally lit objects. There are different ways to handle this problem. Can the object being photographed be moved into shade and dappled light, say through a tree be used to light the object?

Sometimes we have to choose between which elements we want to include in the photograph and compose our photo around those shot elements that work best. Can the camera settings be adjusted to compensate?

Stopping down the exposure settings may produce the desired effect to optimize the image but remember that shaded areas within the photo composition will also appear darkened so it is a matter of striking the right balance.

Adding light to your composition can be achieved in many interesting ways. Look for natural light filtering through trees to light your object. Light reflecting from a shiny surface such as a puddle, pond, stream or still body of water not only introduces more light but adds a new dimension. Street lamps or other novel light sources reflected off a shop window or car bonnet are similarly effective.

Architectural features can often be enhanced when lit by the sun. If shooting pictures of buildings, select the aspects of the building that are highlighted by the contrasting effect of sunlight (and shade) falling on the building façade.

Another tool that can be used to remove shadows and still use natural light to light your objects is a white umbrella. The umbrella is angled in such a way as to bounce light onto the object dispelling the shadow.

If the light produced is still insufficient, forced fire-flash light might be required to augment the photo. Optional flash settings are available for digital camera users.

The key here is to not use too much light so check that your object is not washed out (over exposed). If you can’t reduce the amount of light then step back from your object and frame your shot with zoom. The flash impact is reduced accordingly.

Bracket the shot with other images that offer greater or lesser exposure and choose your preference later. With modern digital cameras, memory need not be an issue.

Storage is cheap and lots of differently composed image options giving a range of settings will enable choice of the most interesting pictures.

Clouds lit from below can often appear more dramatic and threatening. You might also consider shooting into the sun to create silhouettes and add drama to your images.

Areas where you want to shoot may be crowded with people or activity during the middle of the day and shot making during the early mornings or evenings may give you interesting photo opportunities that didn’t exist during the middle of the day.

Conversely, depending on the elements being captured, the opposite may be true so it is important to introduce planning into photograph shoots to optimize potential effects.

Another aspect of timing that is often overlooked is the influence that weather might have on a potential image. Bad weather produces grey and dull conditions.

The light may be softer and colours will be muted, creating different moods. Angry seas and stormy skies, wind-blown birds, bunting, flags, full sails, open umbrellas all add drama and serve to build atmosphere in a composition.

Polarizing filters are another useful tool for boosting contrast and reducing reflections and have the effect of enriching colours of compositions for sometimes spectacular effect.

These filters also increase detail that might otherwise be washed out and can make for sensationally different photographs. A polarizing filter would be a great asset if you are using an SLR (single lens reflex camera). Learn how to use polarizing filters for great impact.

If you enjoy working with SLRs then it can be very useful to employ UV filters. Not only do they help to protect your lenses but they have the ability to remove some ultra violet light, reducing the appearance of atmospheric haze that is sometimes seen as a bluish tinting.

I’ve walked this earth for the last 56 years and started taking pics as a kid on a “Box Brownie” before migrating to a Kodak Instamatic 110. I moved up to 35mm with a Minolta 7 Series II in 1976 and eventually made it to SLR via the Canon T70 and some decent Tamron Telephoto and wide angle lenses in 1983. I recently moved into digital photography and just love the instant immediacy and myriad options that the new technology brings.

I specialize in landscape photography. Living in New Zealand (Godzone), I am blessed with many spectacular photo opportunities. These days my camera is almost always close at hand and I have been rewarded with some awesome results.

I have twice been the recipient of the Editor’s Choice Bronze Award from the International Library of Photography and have been involved for the last 10 years in my church video team where my responsibilities include cameraman, director, team manager.

A foray onto the Internet a couple of years ago led to the establishment of my first photography website (since sold) and I have a string of similar projects in train including a photography store-front,
